A LIL’ ABOUT L2 BUBBLE TEA

It was all a dream. Twenty years ago, we started selling our bubble tea on the second level of a building in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown—hence our name, L2. We grew our menu one drink at a time, expanded our locations, and built our reputation for next-level bubble tea.

2003

The first L2 Bubble Tea store opens on the second floor of a building in Montreal's Chinatown.

2016

Time for a revamp. L2 Bubble Tea rebrands to establish a new look and feel.

2016

L2 Bubble Tea expands, opening its second location in Laval and third in Fairview Pointe-Claire.

2018

We’re on a roll! L2 Bubble Tea kicks off its franchising program.

2021

All the way up, L2 Bubble Tea reaches 10 store locations.

2023

Wowza! It’s our 20th anniversary. Total rebrand to celebrate our mega milestone. Fourteen stores and counting.

What is bubble tea?

It's a cold tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. But today, there are a zillion and one options made with tea, sweetened milk, coffee, fruit juices or other toppings, and balls or “pearls” of tapioca which are made from manioc, also called boba, pearl tea. There’s also flavoured juice-filled popping balls, which explode once you nibble on them. You can even add coconut pulp.

What are bubble tea pearls made of?

Bubble tea pearls are vegan-friendly tapioca balls which are made from manioc.

Popping pearls or popping balls, are vegan-friendly, with an outer shell of seaweed extract filled with flavoured juice.

Are L2 Bubble Tea drinks gluten-free?

Yes. Our bubble tea drinks are gluten-free, except for the Oreo Cookie Smoothie.

Are L2 Bubble Tea drinks lactose-free?

Our drinks are made with non-dairy creamer and milk, except for the Oreo Cookie Smoothie, Chocolate Milk Tea (our chocolate powder contains lactose) and Ice Cap. We also offer a soy milk option. We use yogurt only on request for certain drinks like smoothies.

Are L2 Bubble Tea drinks vegan?

Yes, our drinks are vegan-friendly. They’re made with non-dairy creamer and milk, except for the Oreo Cookie Smoothie. We use yogurt only on request for certain drinks like smoothies.

Do L2 Bubble Tea drinks contain peanuts or tree nuts?

We do not carry any peanut or tree nut products. However, there is always a possibility of cross-contamination from the factory.

Are L2 Bubble Tea drinks halal?

Yes. Our bubble teas are made with non-dairy creamer, tea, juice, tapioca balls, or pearls, which resemble other gelatin products, such as sweets and jelly. These balls are made from agar or alginate (a seaweed extract), both Halal.
